We had the privilege of hearing our guest pastor, Pastor Siirila, preach this morning on “the cross before the crown”.
In the sermon he shared the beautiful lesson of what life as a follower of Christ looks like and why the cross is so important.
Life as a follower of Christ is not always easy. God instructs us to take up our crosses, or difficulties, and follow him. But why should we follow him?
Pastor Siirila offered these beautiful words,
“The cross is important because of two reasons – because of the depth of our sins but also because of the immeasurable love of God.”
Romans reminds us that there is no one human on earth who is worthy, not even one. This Lenten season is a constant reminder of our sins but also a constant reminder of what God’s love, as Pastor said, “compelled” Him to do. He didn’t forsake us or give up on us but had mercy on us. He sent a sinless lamb to slaughter for our sins.
The cross was and is necessary. As Pastor shared, “a crossless Christ would be a hopeless world”. His sacrifice on the cross gives us the crown. Praise Him!
