St. Michael and All Angels’ Day!
Sermon Text: Isaiah 6:1-8
Look at the picture (by Danish painter Carl Bloch) of Jesus and the angel who comforted Him during His suffering in Gethsemane. This picture is the essence of the Bible’s teaching of the holy angels: They rejoice to glorify and worship God, who made them. They worship Christ, who is God. Yet they go willingly to serve God’s children when He sends them to protect them. When Christ left His throne in heaven to be humbled as a man for our salvation, they even came to serve Him, to help Him in His suffering when He was “made a little lower than the angels.” Helping Him was helping us! For the salvation He won brings us to heaven and seats us with the angels.
