Love One Another As I Have Loved You John 13:34
August Comes. It’s hot. I’m bored. There’s nothing to do. How come we never do anything fun? Maybe that’s after we got back from vacation and broke the bank to go to the amusement park. Maybe the kids had a meltdown with the Mickey ears on, right in the middle of the fairway. We were so looking forward to summer. We couldn’t wait to get out of school, or for things to lighten up at work. We were excited for…
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28
July comes. Good times. Our minds turn to vacations and cookouts and beach trips and fun in the sun. The best of times. Do the best times, though, bring out the best in us? Experience teaches that sometimes, the easier we have it, the harder it is for us to deal with life. Think of a child with Mickey ears having a meltdown at the amusement park. How does that happen? Our optimism and our good mood don’t survive long.…
Christianity Is Radically Different.
Why should a person be a Christian and not a Muslim, Buddhist, or a follower of another religion? The answer: Because Christianity is true. Our society today struggles with this answer. It views all religions as basically the same and therefore as different perspectives of the truth. This view of world religions cannot be true. Most world religions teach that a person reaches heaven by doing something, such as gaining certain knowledge, leading a good life, atoning for your wrong,…
A Light that Guides to Heaven
The Oak Island lighthouse is the brightest lighthouse in the United States. Its beam is rated at 14 million candlepower. It can be seen for over 20 miles out to sea. Sailors moving up and down the coast by that lighthouse are warned of danger, but they’re also shown something else. Each lighthouse has a unique signal. The light stays on for a certain amount of time and then goes off for a certain amount of time so that sailors…

I, Will Remember Their Sins No more
Have you seen them? It only happens once a year, buy you have probably noticed. They walk around with that “black stuff” on their foreheads. It looks like it is in the shape of a cross. What’s that about? It is about Ash Wednesday and the beginning of the season of Lent. The black stuff is ash and it is worn as a sign of repentance–sorrow over sin. Ashes were often used this way by God’s people in the Old…

Born Sinless to Be Our Sin-Bearer!
“Please stay tuned for an important announcement.” “We have some breaking news to report in just a moment!” Then comes a cutaway. A commercial. Another one. The teasers keep us from flipping the channel. Is there some big surprise? Despite the hype, the “important announcement” often disappoints. We think to ourselves, “What’s so earthshaking about that?” It may be old news rehashed. It may be something any reasonable thinking human being could have imagined. Well, today – March 25 – has…
