Luke 2:10-11, “And the angel said to them, “Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.” The shepherds in the field were the people the angel spoke to and they were uplifted with “Good News”! A savior and king was born who was prophesied from ages past. Hearing the news, the shepherds quickly went to find Christ the Lord.
Good news of great joy is something that most people would desire. Good news such as, your child is going to live; you will receive a pay increase; you received the position! Good news uplifts the Soul!
Goods News of Great Joy is brought to us this Christmas year, as it will be until the Resurrection. That good news is Jesus was born in human likeness to live a life of perfection for humankind.
Why a life of perfection? Try living perfectly for a single day; examine your attitude behind every action or thought made. We are unable to live perfectly according to a perfect Law. A Law written even on our hearts, to do good in every manner to our neighbor and even God. If we cannot even be perfect for our neighbors, then how could we truly appease a perfect God? We cannot. The truth is, without Jesus, we have bad news which would end in our suffering forever. Realizing this we definitely need some good news.
Go back to the message of the angels for the shepherds and for all people. “For unto you is born this day in the city of David, a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.” This is good news of great joy! A savior has come to save us from our imperfection, our sin. We may really live now in great joy which uplifts the soul in this harsh life. With the good news that started Christmas, Christmas is more than a once a year occurrence…it is now a daily occurrence which we may return to when life is not so bright and fun, when sin overwhelms. It is good news that recalls us to our forgiven sins and the salvation promised through Jesus.
Jesus is the good news which brings great joy! This christmas and everyday afterwards remember that your joy is one Jesus desires to give you as good news of great joy of a Savior come to give salvation!
